In August 2004 the Company undertook its first Summer School - an outstanding success.

The tutors for the week were Matt Brind and Phylleda Crowley-Smith.  Matt, an old friend of the Company (for more information, see the People section in our history page) hails from Cardiff and is now based in London, where he works at Mountview Theatre School, and has also worked at the Royal Academy.  He has played for a number of West End shows including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and as of November 2007, is the MD for the West End show Desperately Seeking Susan.

The young people who attended the School benefitted greatly from Matt's musical talents, with the week run just like a London summer school.  Phylleda, who is best known as the White Cat in CATS, has also appeared in many West End productions, such as Phantom, Chitty and Grease, and also teaches at Mountview.  She brought amazing movement to the young people, teaching them original choreography from both CATS and Grease

Phylleda and Matt's expectations of our young people were high and our young people did not let them down: from start to finish they were focussed and committed.  At the end of the week, they performed 'Unknown Rhythm' (as titled by the cast!) for their parents.  Without a doubt it was the most amazing experience for many of the young performers.  To work alongside two West End professionals for a week gave such a fantastic insight into the professional world of theatre and challenged them to perform to the very best standard they could: a challenge to which they rose!
